Questions at Border Control

When Mateo arrived in Canada for a two-week vacation, he joined the line for passport control. Before reaching the officer, he checked that his passport and return ticket were easy to find. The officer greeted him and asked the reason for his visit. Mateo explained that he was traveling for tourism and planned to visit Toronto and Niagara Falls. The officer asked where he would stay, so Mateo showed the address of his hotel and the booking confirmation on his phone. He also explained that he worked as a teacher in Brazil and would return home after the vacation. The officer asked whether he was carrying food or anything that needed to be declared. Mateo answered honestly and followed the instructions about his luggage. The questions were direct, but the officer remained polite. Because Mateo listened carefully and answered clearly, the conversation lasted only a few minutes. He collected his bags and continued to the arrivals area.
